The Fiber Artist

Wow, that sounds pretentious doesn't it. But it is the name of my company, so I decided to use it. This is where I will keep a record of works in progress in the hope that it will result in more productivity. It will also give me a place to ramble on about my life, so that maybe later I will remember what happened in ___ (fill in day, month, year of your choice).

swatches and dishclothes

Falling Leaves

Jacob Romney Aran swatch
Jacob Romney Gansey swatch
I have been trying to get over dental surgery, again. Either my mouth hurts or I am feeling draggy from the drugs that help it not hurt so much.  So not working on anything that requires rubbing 2 brain cells together.

So I knit a dishcloth.

And 2 swatches.  First I knit the gansey swatch and realized that any kind of pattern was going to disappear into the color variation.  So I over plied the 2-ply and cabled the yarn, and knitted a simple rope cable, which doesn't show much better.

More thinking will be required.

Socks

Water Garden Socks
Water for Elephants
I finished the Water Garden socks in record time, for a six sox entry that was not on a deadline.  The lace design is easy to work without a pattern and at 8 rows there is a just one more repeat, just one more repeat, thing going on.

I really liked the book Water for Elephants   So when my friend Miriam pointed out the sock pattern I jumped on that with both feet. (so to speak)

And here is part of the leg of the first one.  See the elephant down there in the left lower corner.

these are great fun.

Busy week this week, family reunion yesterday.

I get to visit Anna's classroom on Monday.

Then Odd Tuesday.

Then more dental surgery on Thursday.

Dishcloth

I have found a solid color cotton, wound it into a ball and printed the pattern for the Falling leaves dish cloth.

Also wound the 100 yd skein of jacob/romney to swatch as a 2 ply and then cable and swatch as a 4 ply.

The fun never ends around here.

I am trying to keep myself busy so I will stay away from the spinning wheel until the strained muscle in my back heals.

Knitting with Kindles

I have 2 kindles, I tried using the kindles to read patterns when I got the first one but a pdf transferred to the Kindle shows up so small that one must enlarge and then scroll constantly.  Not acceptable.

But if you download and install a pdf converter. I use: K2pdfopt so after running the electronic copy of the pattern below through the program I up-load it to dropbox and open it on the Kindle and it is the correct size for use.  I will go make socks now.

Curtains

If you scroll down you can see the curtains I made for the house before things interfered.  I still had 2 bedrooms and my office/dining room to do.
East side window

This is the red bedroom.  The curtain material has a very art deco feel which I like against the dark red of the walls.  These were finished a while back but I thought I would show then since I had shown all the rest.

Only one more bedroom and the office left.
West front window

One more Birthday down

Not mine, the youngest son.  And not the birthday itself, just his birthday socks.  Anyway here they are.
He likes ankle socks so that is what I made.  Hope he likes them.

Regia Blitz Color knitted on size Zero needles.
