The Fiber Artist

Wow, that sounds pretentious doesn't it. But it is the name of my company, so I decided to use it. This is where I will keep a record of works in progress in the hope that it will result in more productivity. It will also give me a place to ramble on about my life, so that maybe later I will remember what happened in ___ (fill in day, month, year of your choice).

Busier than a one-armed paperhanger

Or as I read on a blog the other day, (wish I remembered where so I could link)busier than a centipede in a toe counting contest.
Anyway, Ike came and went and we did not lose the 600 to 1000 dollars worth of food in the freezer, which is crammed to the top. Thank goodness!

We are making big changes here. I have been working at Riker's Ridge elementary and the High School, but haven't been called to the Jr. high as yet.

Sierra has decided that she wants to be home schooled, and even though both Bob (her therapist) and I told her that she will work harder than she ever thought possible, she still wants to do it. So we are transferring her to Hoosier Academy, hopefully she will start on Wed. She spent most of the weekend taking placement tests. So she is learning about the work. Hoosier Academy is in Indianapolis, so I will be going up to Indianapolis every Wed. and Friday. (Unless I can talk them into putting her on the Tuesday, Thursday track.) The rest of the week she will be working from home on her computer.

So we shall see, how Christopher and I hold up, since he has said that he will drive her on the days I have to work.

I have started the sweaters for the kids for birthdays and Christmas, and have finished Sierra's, Caleb's sleeves and back are done, and Rayne's sleeves are done and I am almost halfway up the body. It is like eating potato chips, I just can't wait to see what this stripe will look like. I had ordered the yarn (Dale Yarn - Falk) and once I started I realized that I wanted a darker green, and now a deep wine, so those are Henry's Attic sock yarn that I have dyed. I am liking the colors. Once I finish the stranded knitting we will see how long it takes me to get the embroidery done. And I found a place on line to order googley eyes that sew on instead of glue on ones so I am set for life with 2 different sizes.

Ok off to check the math that she has to hand in before she transfers, and then I am am going to knit.

Sierra's Birthday Sweater finished

Sierra will be 15 on the 9th of November. This is her birthday sweater. This was so much fun to knit. I just might have to find another skinny person to make another one for. (Yes the pattern goes up to 3X which is larger than I would need...but, no, just because I could, does not mean I Should) I will get pictures of her in it. It is so cute.

I made the adjustment of not leaving the edge of the fronts higher than the back, I decreased until they met. Which made a smooth V-neck opening. I used all of 8 and pat of the 9th (of 10) balls of Jo Sharp Silkroad Aran, and did have some nervous moments about having enough yarn, since this was closeout yarn from Elann I knew that there was no more. But I had enough, so all is well.

Now I am starting the Flowers and Bugs cardigan from A Garden Stroll by Lori Ihnen, which my friend Viki pointed out to me in Half Price Books, and which was a whopping $3.00. There are at least 2 designs in there which will find their way onto the needles.

I ordered all of the yarn for this sweater and the 2 sweaters for Mark and Caleb from Webs about 2 months ago. Caleb's back and sleeves are finished. Need to get the Lizard done. He is getting the same sweater that I made for Mark last year. And Mark gets a Raccoon.

Anyway when I got all the yarn out to start I realized that I had only gotten one of the greens and I needed another (darker) green in a fingering weight superwash yarn.
I thought to myself...Self you have a lot of sock yarn... Sock yarn is superwash fingering weight yarn, go through the Sock Yarn Stash. So I did, but there was no green. Then I tried on line to find some dark green fingering weight yarn. But Mom came over and wanted to leave for town early, so I just left the window on the computer and went to town, figuring that I would finish when I got home. When I was driving down the hill to town, I suddenly thought, "Hey I have about 5000 yards of Henry's Attic superwash sock yarn, and I have green dye, and I know what to do with it..." So this morning......I dyed. And as soon as it dries I can continue with my sweater.

See the very green yarn.
