The Fiber Artist

Wow, that sounds pretentious doesn't it. But it is the name of my company, so I decided to use it. This is where I will keep a record of works in progress in the hope that it will result in more productivity. It will also give me a place to ramble on about my life, so that maybe later I will remember what happened in ___ (fill in day, month, year of your choice).

I have escaped from Sleeve Island

And here is the proof, my oldest granddaughter holding her uncles sweater with the finished sleeves. Now on to the body shop.

It is December

I have been a bad blogger, and I have been in a mood. Don't know why, but I have been. But I have been knitting. I finished Caleb's Christmas sweater, except for sewing in the zipper but I have it, so that will get done.

The SIL Mike's boot socks are finished, that is one ball of Meilenweit fingering weight sock yarn variegated from black through 3 shades of gray to white, and 2 complete (plus about 5 to 10 yards of a 3rd) skeins of Jawoll sport in med. gray. Surprisingly it took only one of the spools of reinforcing yarn.

I held all 3 together and knit the toes and heels with size 2 needles and knit the rest of the socks with size 3, and the 2 without the reinforcement. They knit up fast and are very thick and warm. Mike has fibromyalgia and should like these.

Then I went back to work on Mark's Christmas sweater, which is a green hoodie. But the pocket is a dog with his tongue sticking out, and this is just so Mark, on so many levels. It is plain stocking stitch so I am working on Chris's FLAK sleeves until my fingers get tired, and then working on Mark's.

Chris's FLAK is growing only about 3 - 3.5 inches left on the 2nd sleeve, yes, I am aware that I have been doing a lot of bitching about these sleeves but they are 22 inches, and then the cuff, they are long sleeves! And they are mostly seed stitch, seed stitch is boring, so I will be glad to get the sleeves finished and go back to the body, where there are more interesting cables. In the picture where the sleeve in progress is lying on top of the finished sleeve, you can see the amount left to finish.

In other news I have managed to make a coconut pie that is as good as the original with splenda instead of sugar that has no effect on mom's blood sugar numbers. So she can eat it without messing up the diabetes, or feeling guilty.

My oldest granddaughter is up staying with us for a while, so I have been forced to do some cleaning so the child feels like she has some room, I think that if the children are going to come back or send their children back that they should have to build on extra rooms, so that the parents don't start using rooms, only to have them yanked away again. But that seems to be only my opinion. I can't get much agreement from the children.

While I was in Virginia, after I finished Uncle Jimmie's socks, I finished Caleb's sweater and sewed it together. And then I was forced to work on Trip trap, until we got home, because while I had the pattern and yarn for Mark's sweater, (purchased at Ewe Knits) I did not have his measurements. So I got close to finishing the right side of the front. So it is progressing. Beadwork has not been touched. But I am closing in on finishing the stuff that has to be mailed, and after that I will have most of the pressure off.

Then I can start a schedule of things to work on for 2007. I think since I have started making things for *ME*! I had better try to maintain a "one for them, one for me" schedule, or I will turn around after knitting for me for a while and discover it is October and I have done nothing for any one else.

If I was a good wife I would make Carl some boot socks, because he complains all the time about cold feet. But I am a bad wife so I haven't made him any. (he told me years ago not to make him any socks because he doesn't like wool socks, so I haven't.)

Now I need to go bone the turkey soup and get the vegetables in if we are going to have it for supper.
