The Fiber Artist

Wow, that sounds pretentious doesn't it. But it is the name of my company, so I decided to use it. This is where I will keep a record of works in progress in the hope that it will result in more productivity. It will also give me a place to ramble on about my life, so that maybe later I will remember what happened in ___ (fill in day, month, year of your choice).

Sleeves and socks

Megan's socks are finished and ready to mail tomorrow morning.

Last week while waiting for the new clue on the lace shawl, I finished the sleeves for the Candlelight Kimono KAL from Ample Knitters.

I started Megan's socks on Tuesday, and I worked on the socks on Wednesday and Friday(at the dentist), and Saturday until the clue came out. Then Sunday once the clue was finished back to the socks. Now that they are finished it is back to the Candlelight Kimono fronts.

Clue 2 Finished

At 2:05 on Sunday, May 24.

And now I can go back to work on Megan's birthday socks. Which are half way up the first sock cuff. They need to go into the mail by Tuesday, so off to finish.

Since I finished the mystery shawl clue, I decided to go ahead and start the sleeves of the Candlelight Kimono that the Ample Knitters are doing as a Knit-A-Long, this is only the 2nd of the of AK KAL's that I have done, but I like the looks of this one. The pattern is only available through the Ample Knitters Yahoo list. Working both sleeves at once. About half done before I start the decreases for the set in sleeve.

The yarn is South West Trading Co. Bamboo and at the moment is quite hard and scratchy. I am counting on it softening up quite a bit with washing.

Clue 1 Finished

About 7:00 pm Sunday night. I will have to see how much trouble putting the memory wire through the stitches is, or there will just be partial stretching from now on. It isn't stretched as much as it will be when blocked.

Anyway here it is.

New stuff

After due consideration, (I laid the swatches on the table where I would see them every time I walked by) I am using the puce cashmere. Also I just like saying puce cashmere.

So as soon as the first clue comes out I shall cast on. Depending on when it is available I should finish tonight or tomorrow, since the first clue is usually very short.

Somehow I had forgotten to even mention the 5th guy socks of the year, (the 4th pair went to Wayne Mortensen, the dental student who put on almost all of my crowns, who graduated last week) which will be Christopher's Birthday present June 8th.

And now on to Guy socks 9 which will be Chase's Birthday socks, August 22.

Then I need 5 more pair by Dec.25.

And I am starting the Candlelight Kimono (which looks nothing like a kimono) which is an Ample Knitters exclusive pattern and KAL. using the SWTC Bamboo in parrot.

You Win Some, You Lose Some...

and at the moment every thing is getting rained on.

The Win: There is no lace on any needles here, none! Until Saturday when the first clue to the new Mystery Shawl KAL comes out and I can cast that on.

The Lose: See that yellow/light orange in the picture of the shawl on the clothesline? It really was there, but it isn't anymore. See the blocking picture... That is the color now. I put it into water with wool wash and the water turned blood red. Not pink or light red, blood red! I quickly put the shawl into a dye pot with some vinegar in case the dye had not set properly, and simmered it for 1/2 hour, and then started rinsing again, and rinsed, and rinsed and rinsed, and after 2 days of soaking and rinsing, it finally stopped bleeding. But it was much darker when it stopped.

I like it and Sierra will probably like it too. But it turned out very different from what it was. I have enough of the fingering weight yarn to make a pair of socks, (106 grams). Do I want to? Thinking...Thinking.

Why Yes I might be Crazy, Why do you Ask?

I am getting ready to start row 125 (of 145) on the chart of the Faroese Flower Shawl, so only a week or two to go. (Long rows, Very long rows!)

So, of course I have been considering the next lace project, and what should come along but the next Mystery shawl Knit-A-Long from Goddess Knits. It will start on May 15. I should be able to finish the Faroese Flower Shawl by then.
We cannot not have lace on the needles.

Now, the question is: Should it be Puce or Turquoise? Merino or Cashmere? Decisions, Decisions. Sierra votes for turquoise.
